John Peers Reaches Another Grand Slam Semi Final At US Open

Kooyong Foundation star John Peers has locked in a spot at the year ending ATP Tour Finals with another fantastic run to the US Open Doubles Semi Finals.

Having won the Australian Open Doubles title and also making the Wimbledon Semi Final, Peers and partner Henri Kontinen will play Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau for a spot in the final.

The top seeds were business like through the early rounds with wins over Americans William Blumberg and Spencer Papa, Russians Mikhail Elgin and Daniil Medvedev and Columbia’s Juan Cabal and Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer all in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinal they faced off with American Nicholas Monroe and fellow Australian John-Patrick Smith and it was another straight sets victory for the Australian Open champions 6/3 6/4.

In other news for Peers, he has just been named in Australia’s Davis Cup team that is set to take on Belgium in Belgium next week alongside Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson.

The team will be attempting to help Australia reach its first Davis Cup final since 2003 when they defeated Spain on grass at Melbourne Park.

The other Semi Final between France and Serbia looks to be one sided on paper so a home final against France is a distinct possibility if Australia can manoeuvre past the team from Belgium on an indoor claycourt.

We wish John the best of luck for the remainder of the US Open as well as for the Davis Cup Semi Final and ATP Tour finals at the end of the year!
