The Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club is internationally renowned as "The Spiritual Home of Australian Tennis".

For over a century the Club has been lauded as both a sporting venue of the highest standard and a first class facility for Members and Guests. The Club consistently focuses on a quality of amenities and level of service that is equal with the World's best, and yet retains its unique characteristics and connections with its revered place in sporting history.

The superb grounds are located in Melbourne's leafy inner city precinct, and comprise 26 grass courts, 22 all-weather en tout cas courts and 3 Plexicushion courts. The Clubhouse features a fully equipped gymnasium, lap pool and spa, Pro Shop, a billiards room, four international-standard squash courts, as well as an outstanding restaurant, bar and bistro and a selection of impressive private event spaces.

Within a year of the first Wimbledon Championships in 1877, the citizens of Melbourne enthusiastically embraced the new sport of lawn tennis. In its infant years the Melbourne Cricket Club controlled the game and in 1892 the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, known as the Lawn Tennis Association of Victoria, was formed to take over administration of tennis in the colony of Victoria.

Melbourne-born Norman Brookes' sensational Wimbledon victory in 1907, followed a month later with his capture of the Davis Cup in partnership with New Zealander Anthony Wilding, was a turning point in the Club's development. Courts were rented for the first time at the Albert Ground in St Kilda Road to stage Australia's first Davis Cup, for which Brookes, a member of the Association's Council, was the sole selector and mainstay of the home team.
