The Peter Quinn Cup in its third year was another fun social tennis event for our Foundation players.
Pitting older and younger Foundation players together in a round robin doubles format with music going and food and drink consumed, a strong crop of talented Foundation players participated in this year’s event.
After the round robin format had been completed the semi-finalists were set. Dimitri Bagaric & Ayush Salunkhe defeated Olivia Moir & Hayato Sata in one semi-final and in the other it was Tom Patton & Grace Thomas defeated the pairing of David Hough & Pauline Ma.
The 10-point super tie break final doesn’t leave much room for error, and it was the team of Bagaric & Salunkhe that raced out to a 6-1 lead. With Patton & Thomas fighting back but still down 3 match points 9-6, they somehow managed to scramble their way back with a series of booming serves, reflex volleys and a crucial hustling lob to win the next 5 points and get their names engraved on the Peter Quinn Cup for 2024.
Congratulations Tom and Grace!
