The recent Australian Championships held in Bendigo were a fruitful one for many Foundation players

The recent Australian Championships held in Bendigo were a fruitful one for many Foundation players. The prestigious December Showdown gathers the best junior players in the 16/U and 18/U age bracket from around the country who have qualified for the year end championships. With a host of players involved in the action there were some standouts amongst Kooyong Foundation players.

In the 16/U Championships, Ymerali Ibraimi was dominant in winning the singles and doubles titles. “I played great in the final, really stepped it up and was so pleased to get the win” Ibraimi said of his 6-1, 6-2 win over Evan Vasliadis. Ibraimi also teamed up with Filip Fantasia to take out the doubles title and complete the double.

In the 18/U Girls Championships, we had an all Kooyong final with close friends Ava Beck (16 years old) and Koharu Nishikawa (15 years old) battling out an almost 3 hour epic final. It was Beck who came out victorious winning 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

Beck and Nishikawa then teamed up in the doubles to defeat fellow Kooyong Foundation player Gabby Villegas and her partner Audrey Aulia 6-4, 7-5 in the final. “I’m really happy to have won both titles. It’s a shame one of myself or Koko had to lose but was really nice we could win the doubles title together” Beck Said.

In the 18/U Boys, Diordan Macababbad had an excellent run making the quarter-finals of the singles and semi-finals of the doubles event. Baxter Errey and Tom Ranson had a fantastic run in the doubles event, finishing runners up. “Was a great week and really fun to play with Tom again, a fellow Kooyong player” Errey said.
