Koharu Nishikawa is still young enough for a professional tennis career to feel like a dream – but promising enough to dare to do so.
Australia’s third-ranked 14-year-old girl is eyeing off next year’s Australian Open junior tournament, after testing herself against some of the best international players at her age in the past year.
That period included the outstanding Kooyong Foundation junior helping Australia’s 14-and-under girls’ squad advance to the World Junior Tennis Finals in the Czech Republic in August.
They beat Kazakhstan in a must-win third-versus-fourth playoff to clinch their spot.
“It was a real privilege to be able to represent Australia and achieve one of my goals,” Nishikawa said.
